'When [Summers] Die, There Are No Comets Seen'

When I took these pics, it was yet another hot, steamy day in NYC!  I'm already lamenting the end of the summer season as the weather has taken a turn for the cooler side. REALLY!!!??? It's August, damn you! What happened to the dog days of summer? The lazy, hazy, humid afternoons?  WHYYYY isn't the north east a continual warm climate???

Is anyone else dreading the return of winter as I am?

(photos and sunspecs by N. Murphy)

What I'm Wearing:
Top: Anthropologie
Pants: JCrew
Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell
Bag: Alexander Wang
Necklaces: JCrew, Forever21
Sunspecs: Marc by Marc Jacobs (stolen off the head of N. Murphy)

Much LOVE to Fashion to Food for telling me that Free People put my pic up on their blog! So exciting :)

Also, a big thank you to Rose (how apropos, don't ya think?) of Well Curated for letting me know the name of the flowers in my previous post (click here).  Here is her explanation:

Cockscomb is their common name. They are a member of the amaranth family. Pretty, aren't they? They always remind me of coral, or brains, or something a Victorian scientist would keep under glass. They dry very well, and keep their color for several years.

They really did remind me of brains actually. Pretty fluffy brains, but brains non-the-less!
* * *

And finally, for those of you who complimented me on my beautiful house in this post and this post, I must confess that those pictures were at a large estate in Sleepy Hollow, NY that I have the pleasure of staying at every year for my job. So nope, not my place. Bits of my humble abode can be seen here and here.  Will def. take some apartment shots one of these days!

'Alas Poor [McQueen], I Knew Him Well'

Wore this outfit to go and google at the Alexander McQueen exhibit on Saturday (wanted to finally catch it before it closed).  Got there at 9pm, waited in the rain and through starvation for about an hour and a half only to finally break through the museum doors to find the line snaking a couple of times in the lobby, up the steps then around the balcony.  Turned right around and went for dinner and some drinks. C'est la vie!

Did you ladies catch it? Was it absolutely breathtaking?

What I'm Wearing:
Tube Dress: Victoria's Secret
Maxi Cardigan: All Saints (also worn here)
Belt: Urban Outfitters
Shoes: Sam Edelman

'Imitate The Action Of The Tiger'

My usual lunchtime wanderings led me quite randomly into H&M where there on the rack was this awesome shirt dress on sale for $20! Much to my happiness since the equivalent (below) I was eyeing from T by Alexander Wang is holding steady at $210.

Well, I decided to forgo my usual cupcake-a-day for a week and buy the dress!  And, might I add, it's a pretty good imitation!

The Stuff in My Bag Tag

So there's this fun game of tag going around where, if you're tagged, you have to show the contents of your bag.  I was tagged by Chic Therapy, so here's what I carry around on a regular basis. (Oh and depending on if I need to sneak something in the house, I'll switch out my bag for a bigger one wherein it is easier to conceal purchases...hehehe)

Bag -  Alexander Wang Diego...a Christmas gift to me from me and on which I spilled hot chocolate the very first time I took it for a spin! I was so absolutely pissed, that had I not been late for work, I would have went back to McDonald's and screamed at the girl who filled the hot chocolate to the absolute brim, causing it to seep through the top and trickle onto my bag.  There's a light spot in the front of it now...grrrr!

Contents:
ipod - I think the BF stole my headphones...
Phone - Droid...need an update but don't know if I want the iphone or if I should just stick to the Droid
Note Pad - where I doodle all my blog ideas and where I record the orig. price of an item vs. what I paid for it
Water - especially now that it's finally getting hot
Flats - Jeffrey Campbell ballets that are super comfy, super flexible...needed for when the heels are killing
Shoe Bag - cause I won't put nasty shoe soles in my bag and shoe bags are washable
B&N nook - I have a love hate relationship with that thing
Magazine - Lucky, the only one I have allowed myself to subscribe to though they never put a girl like me on the cover...grrrr
Hand Lotion - needed especially in the winter
Wallet - Fendi...filled to the brim with receipts (think George from Seinfeld episode) and cost more money than it is ever filled with
Keys: had this Coach key chain for about 14 years now and it's still holding strong...
Pack-o-Gum - goes without saying
Essie Nail Colors (Lollipop and Chinchilly) - in case I go for a manicure and hate all the colors
Mac Red Lipstick - in case the BF decides to surprise me at work or I go out after
Nikon D300 (not pictured cause I'm taking the picture) - for impromptu photo shoots and to capture street style photos

So tag to the following ladies; you're it!

'...Whose Manners [I] Limp After in Base Imitation'

One of my favorite designers is Alexander Wang.  His juxtiposition of languid lines, structured pieces and varying textures in solid neutrals is timeless, and it really inspires me to play with my pieces.  So here I am at my attempt to imitate Wang greatness - no jewelry, just a hint of plum lipstick.

I got this Wang vest on a thrift run. It was new, with tags, and there were sooo many Wang pieces in the thrift shop, but unfortunately, not my size so I had to settle with this one piece. I paired it with these harems which I first wore here (and I secretly love these pants because I always get stared at when I wear them) and a leather bolero that I got years ago and thankfully thought twice before giving it away. Oh, and I threw on a regular black tank to hide the boobies.

What stare-worthy piece do you ladies have in your closets?

What I'm Wearing:
Vest: Alexander Wang (Thrifted - $45.00)
Leather Bolero: Arden B
Pants: Rachel by Rachel Roy
Tank: Urban Outfitters
Oxfords:  Luxury Rebel (Gifted)
Fedora: Lord and Taylor

Some Wang Inspiration

Take a sec and follow my ramblings on Twitter here!  I'll, of course, return the favor.

'April Hath Put a Spirit of Youth in Everything'

My birthday was a week and a half ago, but I just went out this past weekend to celebrate (yup, you guessed it, due to horrible weather).  I always start shopping for my bday dress two months in advance, and I knew this year I wanted something long and sleek with a peekaboo element.  So when I was perusing the pages and pages of Asos clothing, this Aqua dress was a no brainer!  Beside the fact that it's impossible to get on and off without help, I LOVE IT!!  The cut out is just the right amount of sexy!
Happy 33 me!

Took these shots at my elementary school!  The flowers and painted embellishments are new but that yellow line that we had to line up on and not utter a word is still there!  Many a time did I get detention for speaking out of turn :)  Yup, I was a talker!

What I'm Wearing:
Dress:  Aqua - Asos
           Orig.: $233.00
           Paid:  $103.00
Shoes:  Steve Madden
Bag: Alexander Wang Diego
Rings:  Adder Snakebite, YSL
Earrings: Jewel Mint

Would love to thank DizzyTea for giving me the One Lovely Blog Award! And might I add that she has one lovely blog.  Her images are fresh and whimsical and quite frankly, always puts me in the mood for high tea! And I'd also love to thank Michelle of Daily Cat Walk for giving me the Sunshine Award (how ironic that I can't seem to get SUN in NY). Thanks, Michelle, for your lovely award, and here's hoping it brings some sun!  Check out a couple of weird facts about me and the lovely ladies to whom I nominated here!

And now for some venting:

If you follow me on Twitter, you know of my ravings about these cuties, and how I couldn't find them in my size. Then, as my luck would have it, I happened to look again a couple of days later and voila! There they were in a 6.5, and they were the last pair. I just received them in the mail last night, ripped the box open, gleefully tried them on and ONE SHOE IS A SIZE SMALLER THAN THE OTHER!!! WHAT HAPPENED TO QUALITY CONTROL!!! My only hope is that the other person who's facing this dilemma is feeling as perturbed as I am and has called in the same problem...or....

...have any of you ladies had your shoes stretched?  And does it work?
