'What, My Dear [Suede Skirt], Are You Yet Living?'

I've had this pink suede skirt for a little over 10 years now, and I've yet to put it in the cleaners. Why? I'm terrified that if I do, it won't come back the same (i.e., significantly lighter in color). I've had bad experiences with dry cleaning and leather/suede and have had to get rid of the piece because it was simply ruined. And so I keep this skirt in my closet, under plastic, pulling it out a few times a year. I'll just let it age gracefully...

Not a huge sock and shoe kinda gal, but when I saw these bold polka cuties in Lucky Mag., I just had to have them on my footsies.

What do you think of socks and shoes? Infantile or sweetly mature?

  5. That skirt is gorgeous! I don't blame you for never sending it to the drycleaners.

I generally like the socks with heels combo - you've done it well here, but sometimes when I see it, it makes the girl look like she's 8 years old.

  13. Funky necklace, like it so much! I definitely go for the socks/shoes trend...I'm all over it in the summer! I think it's flattering to the ankle/leg and just gives any outfit a sweet retro flavour and a little bit of uniqueness. But sometimes my feet get weird looks ;)

  28. OH MY WORD! I love this suede skirt. You're so right about cleaners. there are pieces I am so scared to give to them because they have come back damaged. I can understand why you wear it sparingly. love the shoes and socks too...I think I might fall over in those heels! you really rock em!

  29. I don't blame you. There are countless dry cleaners in my town, and only one I will take anything to because the other ones suck so bad! I like socks with heels. I think it's cute.

  37. Let's talk about that amaze ballz necklace! Stunning! F21? really? As for socks and pumps or sandals go...I am divided. I worry about looking like I am trying to be 25 again. However, I often see women over 30 rockin' this look very well! Maybe I shall give it a whirl! You've inspired me : )

  39. I've heard such horror stories about some dry cleaners, this is not good for me, just convinced mom to hand over two of her silk vintage dresses and these are heirlooms! If they get ruined I would just die, so I understand...

Love the socks and shoe ;-)

  46. I agree with you Amy. Don't send this in for cleaning. Suede is probably the most difficult of leathers to clean because it fades horribly...more so than cowhide leather. Generally speaking, you are supposed to re-dye leather and suede after cleaning, but the question is how well can it be redyed? Just wear it carefully and socks with the shoes? love it!

  58. NEVER NEVER NEVER DRY CLEAN SUEDE UNLESS YOU HAVE TO. It kills the napp and dries the fabric out.
